The third meeting of the steering group was held On the November 15, in the reading-room of the Latvian Nature Museum in Riga was held the steering group meeting concerning the LIFE-Nature project “Restoration of Floodplains”. This was the third time since the steering group arranged a common meeting – the first two meetings were held respectively in the Ministry of Environment and Valka district farmer-house “Íempçni”. In the steering group meeting the project leader Ms. Inga Račinska informed about the progress of the restoration of floodplain meadows project. The most essential conclusion - accomplished tasks are moving along with the schedule. There are some separate territories where the work on floodplain meadows restoration already exceeds the expected amount (Sita and Padedze Floodplains, Dviete Floodplains etc.), but there also are areas where planned restoration works are not even done halfway (Vidusburtnieks, Kalciems meadows). That is related with the landowner activities and personal interests on that; because the majority of involved land pieces, on the especially protected area are located on the property of private owners. Ms. Inga Račinska informed about the opportunities of loan funds for local authorities and collaboration partners for implementation of nature conservation projects. Mr. Andris Klepers, the public awareness coordinator of the project informed about the most essential conclusions from the exchange trip to Finland. More information can be received in a separate article. People who were present at the meeting received information about the procedure of making and establishing the information boards on especially protected nature areas. Mr. Ainârs Auniňđ, the project regional coordinator of the Eastern Latvia provided information about the procedure of the Rural Development Plan for the period from the year of 2007 until the year 2013. The Latvian Fund for Nature in collaboration with the Latvian Ornithological Society and the Entomological Society of Latvia formed a work group for introducing substantial suggestions into the politics of agroenvironment. Unfortunately, the majority of logical arguments until now are ignored for unclear reasons. Andris Klepers, Latvian Fund fo Nature |
