The Project objectives are:

  • To support LAT-EST cooperation in nature protection and to set up a core for network of demonstration farms in order to improve environmental education facilities and support environmentally friendly entrepreneurship.
  • To ensure dissemination of project experience to networks of farmers, nature conservationists, policy makers, etc.
  • To ensure the publicity of project results and integration of network in cross-border and national farmer education programs and tourism packages.

The main planned activities within the Project are:

  1. Selection of demonstration farms;
  2. Evaluation of selected farms from environmental, nature protection, economic and demonstration aspects;
  3. Preparation of recommendations for integrated farming practices and demonstrations;
  4. Building the capacity of demonstration farms (demonstration tools; assistance with marketing of products and services; training (incl. basic language training));
  5. Experience exchange between farmers and experts;
  6. Dissemination of project information and attracting network farm visitors;
  7. Development of internet based farm management tool.


Expected results and planned outputs of the Project are:

Support to environmentally friendly entrepreneurship provided by establishment of demonstration farm network with at least 20 participating farms in LAT and EST:

  • 20 farms constitute the network and farmers have received farm management plans and training support in starting environmentally friendly farming practices and demonstration for both LAT and EST visitors;
  • At least 40 farmers from both countries have participated in cross-country farm visits and trainings;
  • Set of recommendations provided for future farming and demonstration activities in LAT and EST, based on best experience in both countries;
  • At least 300 visitors have visited the project demonstration farms, where at least 30% of them are cross-border;
  • Project results and best experience disseminated during 2 national, 1 cross-country and 1 international seminar;
  • Internet tool set up for use of any farmer for planning environmentally sound farming;
  • Project results disseminated within at least 3 joint media campaigns in LAT and EST

The total funding of the project is 888 554 Euro, 85% of the funding is provided by the Estonian Latvian Cross-border Co-operation Programme under European Territorial Co-operation Objective 2007-2013.
