Final seminar of the EC LIFE-Nature Project “Implementation of Mire Habitat Management Plan in Latvia” in Jaunkalsnava Municipality In October 3, 2008 the first Final seminar of the EC LIFE Project “Implementation of Mire Habitat Management Plan” was held in Jaunkalsnava Municipality for the stakeholders and project partners of one of the project sites – Veseta River Floodplain Mire. During the seminar the new nature trail in Veseta Floodplain Mire was opened and for the first time the movie “Life in the mires” demonstrated. Project team introduced the participants of the seminar with the progress and results of the project. More than 60 participants from various regions of Latvia took part in the seminar. It started with the opening of the Photo exhibition “Let’s get acquainted with the mires of Latvia” that included 80 photos from the project sites made by the project experts. At the beginning of the seminar an overview about the project and its results was given by the project manager Mâra Pakalne. The project expert Baiba Bambe introduced with the plant and habitat diversity in Veseta Floodplain Mire. Project hydrologist Aigars Indriksons told about the long-term hydrological studies in Veseta River area. For the first time a new documentary film “Life in the mires” produced by the “Association of Documentary Film and Photography ELM MEDIA” was demonstrated to the seminar participants. The Final seminar continued with an excursion to Veseta Floodplain Mire where a new nature trail was opened. The boardwalk was built by the project partner “Forest research Station”.
