The members of LIFE-Nature project "Restoration of Latvian Floodplains for EU Priority species and habitats" had their second Steering group meeting in guesthouse Kempeni that is typical example of combination on nature friendly farming and tourism business. The members of LIFE-Nature project "Restoration of Latvian Floodplains for EU Priority species and habitats" had their second Steering group meeting in guesthouse Kempeni that is typical example of combination on nature friendly farming and tourism business. Steering group consists of representatives from all partners of the project, including representatives of 22 local municipalities involved in the project. After the first Steering group meeting that took place at the Ministry of Environment, at 27 April it was now time for more outdoor meeting. So Northern Vidzeme area was chosen to present the restored floodplains of Seda River in nature reserve and project site Sedas purvs.
| Landowner A.Šteinbergs | is surprised, that | the first agreement for | restoration works was made with him | The landowner and one of the subcontractors of the project A.Šteinbergs and regional co-ordinator from Latvian Fund for Nature A.Auniņš were the persons guiding the group and presenting floodplains in this area. A.Šteinbergs expressed his satisfaction with results achieved. He admitted that it has been a hard work, but the results are visible and enjoyable. For the participants of Steering group it was hard to imagine how this open and sunny landscape looked like one year before. After excursion to restored floodplains, discussion about project implementation course took place. The project manager I.Račinska introduced the meeting participants with short description of project progress, elaborating more on habitat restoration contracts signed. Presentation about public information and involvement activities was presented by project communication coordinator A.Klepers. Meeting was finished with less formal gathering with sauna and starry sky, sharing impressions about experience in Matsalu National park and floodplain restoration peculiarities here in Latvia.
