WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY 2008

Migratory Birds - Ambassadors for Biodiversity

10-11 May 2008

World Migratory Bird Day 2008 is now fast approaching! The event will be taking place globally for the third consecutive year this weekend from 10 - 11 of May 2008! The theme for this year’s celebration is "Migratory Birds - Ambassadors for Biodiversity". Both the theme and the timing of WMBD 2008 coincide with the forthcoming 9th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to be held in Bonn, Germany later this month.

In this context the organisers hope to use WMBD to help spread the idea of migratory birds as messengers for the conservation of biodiversity worldwide.

On this upcoming weekend, hundreds of people and dedicated organisations around the world will be using WMBD to help spread the idea of migratory birds as messengers for the conservation of biodiversity worldwide. They will be conducting bird festivals, bird watching excursions, exhibitions and other educational programmes to highlight the theme and to promote migratory birds and their protection.

So far, more than 78 different events and activities in over 40 countries have been registered on the World Migratory Bird Day website.

It is not too late to register your own event! To register your event and to learn more about WMBD, this year's theme and the many different WMBD events already registered and being planned this weekend please visit:
