Public discussion of management plan of nature reserve “Burga Meadows”

On the November 17 this year at 11:00, the meeting of public discussion of management plan of the nature reserve “Burga Meadows” will be held in Valka parish municipality. From the November 3, the management plan will be available also there - in Valka Parish Municipality. Written suggestions for the submission are accepted until the November 17 in the Latvian Fund for Nature at Raiňa bulvâris 31-6, Riga, LV-1050, ldf@lanet.lv, phone: 7830999. All the interested parties are welcomed to participate!

The nature reserve “Burga Meadows” was established in the year of 2004 and is declared as the area of “Natura 2000”. It covers 183 ha in total and administratively is a part of Valka Parish of Valka District.

This is a significant site for bird protection, especially for the protection of Great Snipes and Corncrakes. At the both banks of the upper reaches of River Seda are biologically valuable floodplain meadows and several rare and protected plant species. The territory is a part of the North Vidzeme Biosphere reserve. The development of the management plan is led by Ms. Liene Salmiňa (Latvian Fund for Nature), and it is executed under the LIFE-Nature project “Restoration of Floodplain Meadows”.
