Meetings of the Management Plan Steering Group for Veseta River Floodplain Mire Nature Reserve

1. The first Management Plan Steering Group meeting for Veseta Floodplain Mire Nature Reserve took place on July 4, 2005 in the Forest Research Station (Jaunkalsnava) (22 participants). The management plan expert Baiba Bambe informed about the progress of the elaboration of the management plan for Veseta Floodplain Mire, fauna and flora studies in territory, problems and their solutions. Project hydrologist Aigars Indriksons informed about the activities in Veseta Floodplain Mire. During the elaboration of the management plan for Veseta Floodplain Mire protected mammals species, like Castor fiber, Lutra lutra were found. There are also at least seven protected bird species, such as Picoides tridactylus, Bucephala clangula, Circus aeruginosus. In Veseta River Floodplain Mire are rare orchid species, like Dactylorhiza maculataDactylorhiza fuchsii, Dactylorhiza russowii, Dactylorhiza baltica, Gymnadenia conopsea, Platanthera bifolia, Corallorhiza trifida, Listera cordata. Management plan for Veseta River Floodplain Mire will include information on legislation, evaluation of biodiversity values, factors influencing the site, management activities. It will contain digital maps of the site with functional zoning and proposed management and conservation activities.  The management plan Steering Group meeting was continued as a field visit to Veseta Floodplain Mire.

2.  The second Management Plan Steering Group meeting for Veseta Floodplain Mire Nature Reserve took place on October 4, 2005 in the Forest Research Station (Jaunkalsnava) (13 participants).

3. The third Management Plan Steering Group meeting for Veseta Floodplain Mire Nature Reserve took place on November 21, 2005 in the Forest Research Station (Jaunkalsnava) (13 participants). The participants signed the protocol that the elaboration of management plan is completed and all the participants have been informed about the process of the elaboration of the management plans.

The management plan for Veseta River Floodplain Mire is approved by the Regulations of the Minister of Environment of Latvia on January 16, 2006 (Regulation Nr. 16).
