Meetings of management Plan Steering Group, Public hearing

1. On July 7, 2005 the first meeting of the Management Plan Steering Group for Klāņi Mire Nature Reserve took place in Pope Municipality (28 participants). Gundega Freimane from the Nature Protection Board informed about the procedure of the elaboration of the management plans. The main expert of management plan Valda Baroniņa told about the progress of the elaboration of the management plans, habitat and hydrological monitoring, expert studies carried out in the site and the planned management activities in Klāņi Mire Nature Reserve. Project hydrologist Aigars Indriksons informed about the on-going hydrological studies and planned activities in Klāņi Mire for the restoration of site hydrology. During the discussion time one of the most important questions from private owners were about the elaboration of zonation and compensation mechanism if land is part of the nature reserve. There was also a discussion about the presumable compensations for the private landowners who have their properties in the territory of the Klāņi Nature Reserve. Also the planned zonation was discussed. After the discussion the Management Plan Steering Group and project experts as well as local people visited Klāņi Mire Nature Reserve.

2. On October 6, 2005 the second meeting of the Management Plan Steering Group for Klāņi Mire Nature Reserve took place in Pope Municipality (16 participants).

3. On January 25, 2006 Public hearing on the management plan of Klani Mire was held in 25.01.2006 (19 participants). The main subjects of discussion were - management of potential Tetrao urogallus leks; management of forests; compensation mechanism to private landowners.

4. On January 28, 2006 the third meeting of the Management Plan Steering Group for Klāņi Mire Nature Reserve took place in Pope Municipality. The participants signed the protocol that the elaboration of management plan is completed and all the participants have been informed about the process of the elaboration of the management plans.

The management plan for Klani Mire is approved by the Regulations of the Minister of Environment of Latvia on March 27, 2006 (Regulation Nr. 133).
